Kauai County Custody Coverage
Hawaii SAVIN stands for Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification. VINELink is its public search and alert service. The Hawaii Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation calls it free, anonymous, and confidential. Coverage reaches people under DCR jurisdiction. That includes those held at state and county correctional facilities such as Kauai Community Correctional Center. You can use it online, through its mobile app, or by phone at (877) 846-3444. Not every Kauaʻi Police Department arrest enters the system at once. KPD can hold and process a person in its own cellblock first. After court, the person may transfer into DCR custody at KCCC. Someone released early may never appear in SAVIN at all. VINELink answers a custody question. It cannot tell you whether an arrest happened. The DCR Corrections Division overview lays out the state jail system. It also covers the populations it holds.

This official DCR view separates later correctional custody from the original KPD arrest event.
Search Kauai County VINELink
Begin at the official VINELink Hawaii search. Pick Hawaii if the national state picker shows up. Hawaii SAVIN labels its search fields as offender, defendant, or respondent name, plus an offender or case number where supported. Use a known official identifier when you can. A common name may return several people, so the first match is not always the right one.
- Open the Hawaii route and confirm the selected state.
- Enter the name or supported offender or case number.
- Compare all possible matches with facts already known.
- Open the likely record and read the custody event in context.
- If nothing appears, check spelling before using the proper official fallback.
This lookup finds specific people. It is not a roster to browse. Never send a Social Security number, birth date, PIN, or similar sensitive data to this privately run site. Enter such details only in the official service, whose Hawaii VINELink search page shows the route without any real person data.

That empty search screen is the safe starting point for a name or number search.
Kauai County VINELink Results
A result reports custody within the systems that participate. Exact fields vary. Treat each item as a status report, not a full arrest or court file, and note that the service publishes no booking photo or mugshot gallery.
| Result item | Meaning and limit |
|---|---|
| Name and identifier | Helps compare matches but does not alone prove identity. |
| Custody status | Reports a state within covered DCR data, subject to delay. |
| Agency or facility | May identify the correctional authority or location tied to the event. |
| Custody event | May concern release, transfer, discharge, escape, or another supported change. |
| Notification control | Allows alert registration when available for the record. |
VINELink shows no final court disposition. The Hawaii Judiciary site may list a filed public case, subject to its own access limits. HCJDC's eCrim product covers adult conviction history, not current custody.
Kauai Arrest to DCR Custody
KPD's daily report and DCR's custody service record different steps. The arrest PDF captures a police event, its charge rows, and a release disposition. It usually comes out the next morning. It is not a live jail roster. An ISC code means Intake Service Center, describing transfer to KCCC after court. That code alone does not show the person is still there. KCCC answers to DCR, not KPD. A later SAVIN result can speak to correctional custody. But it never replaces the police report. For a filed Fifth Circuit case, turn to the Hawaii Judiciary. For an older or missing arrest report, contact KPD Records.
| Question | Official starting point |
|---|---|
| Was an arrest reported? | KPD daily PDF or rolling archive |
| Is the person in covered DCR custody? | Hawaii SAVIN through VINELink |
| Was a public court case filed? | Hawaii Judiciary eCourt Kōkua |
| Is there an adult conviction record? | HCJDC/eCrim |
| Can an older report be obtained? | KPD Records and UIPA request |
Note: A no-result answer from one system does not erase a record that another system with different coverage still holds.
Register Kauai Custody Alerts
Hawaii SAVIN sends notice by telephone, text, email, in-app message, and TTY. Choices can depend on the record and interface. Registration starts from a matching custody record. Pick a channel you check often, then follow the official prompts. Telephone registration uses a four-digit PIN. Keep it private. The PIN confirms receipt. It can also manage part of the notification process.
- Select the registration control on the correct record.
- Choose phone, text, email, in-app, or TTY when offered.
- Enter contact information in VINELink, never here.
- Create the required account details and telephone PIN.
- Review event choices and save the official confirmation securely.
- Enter the PIN as directed when a telephone alert arrives.
The 2025 Hawaii SAVIN brochure says calls keep coming for at least 24 hours, or until the PIN is entered. It also lists around-the-clock system support. Record updates still may not be instant.
Kauai County Alert Events
A notice can report release, discharge, or transfer. It can also report escape or another supported change. A transfer may just mean the person moved within the correctional system. That is not release. Read the full official message before concluding anything. An alert is a prompt to verify, nothing more. It cannot replace a safety plan, protective order, legal advice, or direct police help. Hawaii SAVIN itself warns that service can fail or lag. If danger is immediate, call 911 rather than waiting on an automated notice.
Important: Never lean on VINELink alone for safety. Verify a reported change through the official service or agency, and call 911 in an emergency.
Kauai VINELink Search Limits
VINELink answers a narrow custody question. It is not the KPD cellblock feed. Nor is it a KCCC photo directory, a court disposition service, a conviction search, or a federal inmate locator. Federal inmates fall outside Hawaii SAVIN entirely. A person still in initial police processing may slip past it too. Blank results happen for many reasons. Indexing delays and a bad search key can explain one. So can a spelling mismatch. A legal boundary or release before DCR intake can too. For something that just happened, the Arrests Last 24 Hours page covers KPD's next-morning calendar-day report. The listed cellblock number is (808) 241-1632. An Intake/Detention Sergeant sits at (808) 241-1637. Published numbers do not guarantee that staff can share live custody status, since privacy, safety, and operating limits may apply. Report copies, older or missing public records, and correction questions belong to KPD Records. That office lists a Records Supervisor at (808) 241-1660 and a Records Clerk at (808) 241-1929. Use the agency form rather than sending sensitive identification through a private page.
When Kauai VINELink Finds Nothing
Start with the spelling. Try a supported official number when you have one. Then ask what you are really trying to learn. An arrest event belongs in the KPD archive. Covered DCR custody belongs in SAVIN. A filed public case belongs with the Judiciary. Adult conviction details live in eCrim, while federal custody needs a federal locator.
Timing changes everything. Someone arrested today may stay in KPD processing until release or a court appearance. KPD's daily PDF can log that arrest before DCR receives any covered custody data. Another path ends in release without KCCC ever being entered. A blank screen fits either outcome. It simply marks the service boundary, not proof that no arrest happened.
Older police records follow a different route. The KPD Records Section reviews requests under Hawaii's Uniform Information Practices Act. Expect possible confidentiality review and redaction. Provide enough facts to locate the report: the report number if known, the report type, the incident date, and your contact details. Send requests through the official portal so any identity documents reach KPD rather than a private publisher.
When VINELink is the wrong tool, the Kauai County recent-arrests hub maps the official arrest-report, records-request, court, and custody paths.
